Can i go on holiday to the usa without a biometric passport?

I dont have a new biometric passport ( the one with the chip ) I have my old passport issued in 2004 but its valid until 2015. ive heard that its very difficult to getting into the usa without proper requirements. I am planning to visit florida in june so i need to know asap if i need to order a replacement. My passport has my photo at the back with a hologram over it and two lines of letters and numbers on the bottom of the page
