How private is private navigation on Firefox?

I agree with Gary Cunningham answer. Actually when to press CTRL+SHIFT+P then mozilla takes you in Private mode that means there is no temporary internet files, cookies, etc. store on your system, with the help of this your parents or roommate can't check what you search and where you have been browsing. This will helps you to maintain your privacy.
