Do i need a Biometric passport to travel from Albania to U.S.?

I entered Albania with an old Albanian passport non-biometric. I'm in Albania for the summer right now and i don't want to spend 70 dollars for the new biometric passport when i can get the American passport within one year. Do i need the biometric passport to travel back to the U.S. or not?
