What should I do about being allergic to dogs and a many guys have dogs?

My current boyfriend has a big hairy dog. I've tried to figure ways to manage to live with it, but I don't see how I can live with it in the end. I promised I'd find a way, but now I really don't think I can. I'll be putting my health aside and be miserably suffering just to accommodate his dog. The thing is, a lot of guys have dogs and I think it'd be hard to find a guy who didn't have one (if this became the reason for leaving, which it may be - he's seriously attached to the dog). I feel this really limits me. Please give advice, I don't know what to do. Thanks!
