Do you need a baccalaureate to get a psychology degree or a-level?

I live in the UK and I have been told I am less likely to be accepted into a university if I don't take courses in History, Geography or a Foreign Language as well as my English, Maths and Science. I don't see how this has anything to do with studying psychology, it's a ridiculous system. Should I change my current options to accommodate this or is it not worth it?
